About the Foley Catheter

Bardex Lubricath Latex Pediatric Foley Catheter

Most often used as a urinary catheter to aid in helping to drain urine from the bladder, a Foley catheter is a small, narrow tube that is passed through the urethra and into the bladder. We carry Foley catheter products made out of either silicone or latex. Designed for more long-term use (as opposed to an external or intermittent urinary catheter), a Foley catheter uses a small inflatable balloon on the end to help hold it in place once inserted.

Most urinary catheter products, including the Foley catheter, are described in circumferential size using French Units (F). One F is equivalent to .33 mm or .013 inches. At Henry Ford Health Products, we carry a variety of different Foley catheter sizes to suit your individual needs.

Other Urinary Catheter Products

Aside from our Foley catheter collection, Henry Ford Health Products also carries other urinary catheter products that include external as well as intermittent catheters. An external urinary catheter does not require an actual tube to be inserted into your urethra, and is often a suitable short-term catherization option for males who may be temporarily unable to use a urinal, bedpan, or a toilet.

Also designed for short-term use, an intermittent urinary catheter differs from a Foley catheter in that it is withdrawn from the urethra after the flow of urine has stopped. Since it is only inserted for a short period of time, an intermittent urinary catheter also does not need balloon inflation to hold it in place, as with the Foley catheter.
